How to you clean ur gauges after just stretching your ears?

Okay, I havent stretched my ears yet, but I plan to. Right after I stretch my ears is it okay to take my plugs out and clean my ear/plugs? Or will it close up? I hope to clean it with sea salt is it okay let it soak in sea salt 20 minutes before stretching?
