Does the American educational system discourage creativity and wisdom and promotes conformity and slavery?

Do you find that the educational system asks you to accept outdated methodology and ideologies and encourages conformity as opposed to originality and talent? I'm taking university courses and I am horrified, as I was horrified in my college and high school and grade school classes... am I the only one?
